INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY EXPERT CANDIDATE TRAINING PROJECT

Önal & Önal Consultancy is the implementer of the Registered Employment Creation Project in partnership with the European Union.

The Intellectual Property Expert Candidate Training Project coded TKYB/2021/FECP -10542 is carried out by Önal & Önal Consultancy INC.

Within the scope of the project, ÖNAL&ÖNAL Consultancy INC. educates and trains Turkish and Syrian female interns to become experts in the field of Intellectual Property Law.

PROJECT SCOPE

The ‘Project for Training Experts to be Sought in the Field of Intellectual Property’, which was created by Attorney Zehra Önal, who is a Trademark and Patent Attorney and also an intellectual and industrial property expert, has been carried out by Attorney ZEHRA ÖNAL within Önal & Önal Consultancy INC. since 2007.

OUR SOURCE OF MOTIVATION

In recent years, there has been a significant increase in trademark, design, patent and utility model applications in Turkey. Protecting the rights of goods and services has become an indispensable part of today’s economy. The increase in demand for intellectual and industrial property consultancy services has brought about the need for employees in the field.
18-year Trademark Patent Attorney Zehra Gürbüz Önal has seen it as a social responsibility to transfer her experience in the sector to educated, capable, young women. The experienced Trademark Patent Attorney aimed to bring the dynamic population together with a job opportunity. In addition to professional experience, it was expected that participation in the project would also provide individuals with the opportunity to integrate into society.

KAYIST PROJECT

KAYIST (Registered Employment) Project is implemented within the scope of the European Union’s Support for Refugees and Host Communities (FRIT) aid program.
The project aims to increase the job opportunities of refugees by providing financial and technical support of a total of 70 million Euros to small, medium and large-scale enterprises with job creation potential in 24 provinces. The main objective of the Registered Employment Creation Project within the scope of FRIT II is to gradually reduce the dependency of beneficiaries of the Social Assistance Adaptation Program for Foreigners (SUY) on social support and to increase their contribution to the society they live in through employment for the development of the Turkish economy.
The Registered Employment Creation Project grant program is funded by the European Union under the “Aid Program for Refugees in Turkey” (FRIT II) and is implemented by the Development and Investment Bank of Türkiye under the management of the World Bank.

PARTICIPANT AUDIENCE

The group to be placed in a job was selected from those who had the following characteristics:

  • those who could not participate in business life,
  • those who were isolated from business life because they did not have experience,Turkish citizens or,
  • foreign citizens

  • Gain skills that they can use throughout their working lives,

Turkish Patent and Trademark Office Educational Tour

thin the scope of the Intellectual Property Field Expert Training Project, a training trip to the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office was organized on February 13, 2025. Industrial Property Training Center Coordinator Mr. Kadri Yavuz Özbay and Industrial Property Expert Ms. Sevgi KAPUCU DÜNDAR shared their valuable knowledge with us young people.

Turkish Patent and Trademark Office Educational Tour


The expert candidates learned the subjects of trademark, design, patent, geographical indication in detail from the training booklets and online courses prepared by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office. The trademark objection petitions written by the expert candidates were examined by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office. The institution assumed the role of the main source of information and authority for the candidates in the Intellectual Property Expert Training Project. During the educational tour, we learned about Turkey’s status in the field of intellectual and industrial property in the light of current data from Mr. Kadri Yavuz Özbay. He showed us the development of the number of patent, trademark and design applications in Turkey with data. He stated that Turkey will be in the top five among the world countries in terms of the number of applications in 2024. He combined his experiences with the fact that intellectual and industrial property has been undergoing a huge development and change in our country for 20 years. Our Industrial Property Expert Lawyer Sevgi Kapucu Dündar enlightened us about the brand. We received legal information that should not be forgotten about trademark law. Sections from the legislation were ‘must-haves’ for the intellectual property experts and trainee lawyers in our group. At the end of the presentation, our questions were answered. The Traditional Products Exhibition on the conference hall floor left us in awe of our handicrafts.

Our friend asked the reason for the change in the Patent/Utility Model Objections rate shown in the graph presented by Mr. Yavuz ÖZBAY, Coordinator of the Industrial Property Education Center. The expert stated that the reason for the increase in the number of utility model applications was the rapid rise of the industry.

At the end of the first term of the project, project expert Ms. Nevin Ergeneli visited our workplace.

We learned the concept of Intellectual Property from experienced Trademark and Patent Attorney Av. Zehra Önal. Project participants and trainee lawyers received training in the field of intellectual and industrial property.
