Aisha Sucu, who was dismissed from her position as the head of the Diyanet Foundation Women’s Centre, filed a lawsuit at Ankara 18th Labour Court for the cancellation of her termination. The court ruled for ‘reinstatement’.

Aisha Sucu, former Head of the Centre for Women’s Activities of the Religious Foundation, whose employment contract was terminated immediately after the appointment of Mehmet Görmez, the President of Religious Affairs, received a reinstatement decision from the court. If the decision is finalised, the Foundation will either reinstate Sucu or pay her legal rights with interest and part ways. Sucu’s employment contract was terminated in January 2011 on the grounds of ‘restructuring’. Sucu argued that the termination was unlawful and filed a lawsuit at Ankara 18th Labour Court for the cancellation of her employment contract, stating that the Women’s Activities Centre had developed during her term and the number of members had increased to 12 thousand. Following the reinstatement decision, Sucu’s lawyer Erendiz Onal said: ‘The court’s decision clearly shows that the decision of the Religious Foundation to dismiss Ms Aisha was unjust and irregular. In line with the judgement, Aisha Sucu must be reinstated immediately. Otherwise, the Religious Foundation will have to pay compensation to Aisha Sucu for its unfair and unlawful action.’

Aisha Sucu was appointed under former Director of Religious Affairs Ali Bardakoglu.
